RALEIGH POLICE DEPARTMENT SEEKS INPUT
The Raleigh Police Department is undergoing the development of a five year strategic plan. As part of that process, we are asking for input from citizens about what they think we do well, and what they think we should focus on in the future. One of the ways the public can do that is through a new online survey tool!
I wanted to send this to you, being involved in your CAC, as a convenient way for citizens to tell us what they think! I ask you to distribute the link below to any of your neighbors, friends, and other organizations you are affiliated with? The more people who give us input the better. The survey can be found at www.raleighnc.gov/police. Then click on >>Raleigh Police Strategic Plan Citizen Survey<<
We very much appreciate any help you can give us in “getting the word out.” Feel free to contact me with any questions.

SOCIO-ECONOMIC DIVERSITY DOESN'T WORK, BUT DAMN THE TORPEDOES WAKE SCHOOL BUREAUCRATS SAY
As demonstrated by End-of-Grade test results, there is no indication that the different approaches to student assignment has made a significant difference in student achievement.
Read the Public Education Research Institute Report here.
The sad fact is that you can print 1000 copies of this report, go over it hundreds of times with our Wake School Board (minus Ron Margiotta) and Wake School bureaucrats and they're just NOT GOING TO CARE.
We've received countless amounts of affirmation of this through the annual struggle of parents fighting the reassignment process.

UNC-CHAPEL HILL ON THE ATTACK AGAINST WAKE COUNTY SHERIFF DONNIE HARRISON
Interested in human rights? Passionate about immigration issues? The Southern Coalition for Social Justice is working on a project to investigate racial profiling at traffic checkpoints in the Triangle area, particularly against members of immigrant communities. We're recruiting interested persons from the University as well as the surrounding community to train as "checkpoint monitors" who would be available to go out to checkpoints and record demographic data about the drivers who are being stopped and how they are being treated. Our training will take place on Saturday, March 21st. Online registration is available at http://nccheckpoint.eventbrite.com/ If you have questions or would like more information, please contact Katie Byerly at kwbyerly@email.unc.edu

HKONJ?
HKONJ? Hardly.
Thousands .... No
Historic ..... No - just a lot of regurgitated leftism.
Only WTVD locally had the numbers correct.
It's a clever way to distort numbers. Have a decent enough crowd in the hundreds and the media will just go along with the "Historic Thousands" mantra.
A far cry from the crowds during last year's election cycle. Of course that was a MBM - money based movement.
You can check out the video footage from YouTube here:
Actual march footage
Actual march footage from a distance
General organizational footage from Chavis Park
Reverend Curtis Gatewood says blacks are still being lynched but does not tell us how
Overall video footage of crowd
The fact is that HKONJ had about 80 partner organizations and between them they only turnout a crowd in the hundreds on a decent weather day in February. WRAL says you had 100 partner groups.
On arguably one of the coldest days in January, NC Right to Life had a much larger crowd - in the actual thousands. You can see the video here.
Beyond the "Socialism Now" sign that accidentally popped up on the WRAL footage, here are some pictures of folks from other front group/non-profit partners.
HKONJ HIGHLIGHTS VIOLENCE ON BRAGG STREET, UH MAYBE NOT
You would have thought that when HKONJ marchers met in Chavis Park on Saturday, February 14, 2009, some lip service would be paid to the violence plaguing this community. Camden Street is just blocks away in one direction and Bragg Street just blocks away in another.
Not a mention. Nothing.
They did help to highlight Bragg Street though and completely unintentionally. In order to put on their show, traffic was diverted around MLK boulevard. That resulted in a caravan of drivers being diverted onto Bragg Street to navigate around the "march."
In due fairness, there was an outcry against violence. Violence against pigs that is.
flesh, milk, eggs .... products of violence.
There ya go.
DO TELL US REVEREND GATEWOOOD
"Today we are being lynhced in different ways." - Reverend Curtis Gatewood at HKONJ.
Please do tell us Reverend Gatewood what today compares today to the "strange fruit" of lynching.
Please tell us. You don't give any examples.

CITIZEN’S GROUP SUPPORTS
Wake County Public School Year Round Plan:
Plan promotes academic achievement for all children
The Coalition of Concerned Citizens for African American Children (CCCAAC) announces its continued support for the reassignment plan proposed by the Wake County Public School System. The plan is consistent with the district’s longstanding commitment to a successful educational experience for all children while supporting a diverse population at each school. The Coalition, many of us educators ourselves, supports the school board’s policy of seeking a balance among schools of students who are eligible for free or reduced priced lunches, students who perform below grade level on End of Grade exams (EOGs), students identified as being Limited English Proficient, students requiring services from Special Education programs, while supporting high academic achievement for all students and maintaining a diverse student population at each WCPSS school.
Wake County enrollment is now the largest in the state of North Carolina. As our school system enrolls thousands of new students each year, and builds new schools to stay current with this growth, reassignment of some students each year is inevitable.
The Coalition is invested in the success of all children and we will always demand excellence for all students. At the same time, we understand that poor and minority students are especially vulnerable when schools fail to offer them the best educational opportunity available. With the current reassignment plan, the school district has demonstrated its ongoing commitment to the wellbeing of all children, the integrity of neighborhoods and the democratic process, and being careful stewards of public dollars.

Rev. Doctor William Barber
President
NAACP-North Carolina
Dear Reverend Doctor William Barber:
I would like to address your outrageous comments as reported in a press release by your organization and other union related groups.
According to a February 16, 2009, press release issued by the Change to Win federation, you, in your leadership capacity with NAACP, were quoted as saying:
The agents of the large corporations behind this phony group have, we believe, underestimated the North Carolina media and North Carolina people, thinking we are so uninformed we will fall for this sophomoric manipulation of treasured symbols and words in our rich North Carolina civil rights history...the only 'Prosperity' the 'Americans for Prosperity' are interested in is more millions of profits for the rich corporate owners who fund this phony outfit.
http://news.prnewswire.com/DisplayReleaseContent.aspx?ACCT=104&STORY=/www/story/02-16-2009/0004973100&EDATE=
Americans for Prosperity (AFP) is an active grassroots organization with over 40,000 members across North Carolina. Last summer over 1,500 of our members attended our Take Back Our State Rally at the North Carolina General Assembly.
Over 600 of our "phony" members attended our two grassroots events this week opposing the misnamed Employee Free Choice Act, also known as the Card Check bill. We have regular meetings across the state in REAL places like Raleigh, Greensboro, Wilmington, Jacksonville, and Siler City. Perhaps you should attend one of our meetings and meet these real life members of our "phony group", as you called it at one point, and a "phony outfit" in another.
As the North Carolina State Director of Americans for Prosperity, it is my job to fight for the principles of our organization and, in this case, when our members are so outrageously insulted by a high profile figure as yourself, it is my job to stand up for them. Your release called our efforts on "card check" dishonest. I request you provide me with written examples of anything we have done with regard to this issue that is dishonest. I defy you to find an example where AFP has been dishonest on this issue in any way.
On the merits of the issue, it is curious to me that you think it is ok for one group of people (potential union members or union bosses) to be able to vote away or “veto” other people’s right to a secret ballot in union organizing elections. What other fundamental individual rights are you willing to see voted away from one group of people by another?
It is worth noting that according to the manual prepared by the Annual Elections Supervisory Committee of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) “All voting shall be by secret ballot” (Page 7) in NAACP leadership elections.
http://www.naacp.org/about/resources/brochures/branch_national_elections_manual.pdf
Americans for Prosperity, works on many issues that advance individual freedom and economic opportunity for all citizens. While our stance is different from the NAACP on the issue of "card check," we worked with NAACP members to defeat the proposed Durham Meals Tax, last November. This regressive tax was defeated by wide margins in the Durham community. Americans for Prosperity led the way in defeating the tax. The thousands of yard signs placed in Durham County by AFP members were no more "phony" than the real life members who placed them.
Finally Reverend Doctor William Barber, as a fellow Christian I am shocked, dismayed, and disgusted by your personal attacks on the grassroots Members of Americans for Prosperity. Unlike you, we would never question the sincerity or beliefs of your members. While at times our legislative agenda differs from your legislative agenda we do not insult your members and gladly work with them when we have agreement on issues.
As a man of God I know you aspire to do the right in this world, as do I. I offer you an opportunity to right this wrong. Should you choose to do the right thing and author a letter of apology to the 40,000 members of Americans for Prosperity, I will pass it along. My contact information is below.
As we move forward I ask that you refrain from insulting the honest beliefs and actual existence of the hard working members of Americans for Prosperity.
Sincerely,
Dallas Woodhouse

RALEIGH'S ARTS PROGRAM - WHAT THE MEDIA IS NOT TELLING YOU
Some things to note that are in Resolution 2009 that created the program and some things that are not.
1. Art "creates a dynamic and creative urban life." Read more money for downtown Raleigh to be wasted. Urban = Downtown.
2. Art "enhances the reputation of Raleigh and promotes attracting business and increasing tourism;" Do you know what also helps that out? Paying for more police protection and keeping the murder rate below the almost 50% increase it experienced last year.
3. It's not exactly one half one percent. "It is recognized that the permanent program may take a variety of forms, including but not limited to the creation of a fund into which the one-half percent allocations may be allowed to accumulate if some projects may not be ideal for the incorporation of public art." Read - they'll have a huge piggy bank of your tax dollars to spend. They'll milk every project possible for money to put in the piggy bank. Then they'll spend those dollars elsewhere.
- "The need to have a pool because not all projects would necessarily have an art component but the one-half of 1 percent of the construction cost could go into a pool and that money could be used to put art in areas that do not have a specific project." (Minutes - Raleigh Budget and Economic Development Committee, 1-13-09)
5. They are going to find the highest level of hard construction costs from which to determine the one half of one percent. "If the actual construction bids are higher than the City's pre-bid estimate the percentage shall be accordingly adjusted upward." (Resolution No. 2009)
6. In a time when Raleigh has a hiring freeze, they are discussing hiring yet another bureaucrat for arts. "Commission Chair Starky pointing out they have a current budget and the funding could come from the current budget." (Minutes - Raleigh Budget and Economic Development Committee, 1-13-09) They'll actually be taking money from arts instead of putting money into it.
7. Finally City Manager Russell Allen stated recently that Raleigh has a hiring freeze and is delaying some capital projects. So why in the world in this condition would someone drive up the cost on some capital projects even further?
This isn't over yet.
8. "the final budget for staffing and operation of the program will be established by the City Council as a part of its 2009-2010 annual budget deliberations."
Contact your Raleigh City Council member now and tell them to stop this ridiculous waste of taxpayer dollars. You can reach them here.
BICYCLES - A VIABLE ALTERNATIVE TO DRIVING?
Seems to be working well for this gentleman doesn't it? Of course, he's on Bragg Street and Raleigh's illuminati would just as well forget him.
But Raleigh just spent $172,000 trying to push bicycles as a "viable alternative" to cars.
Wonder how many of Meeker and his buddies bike to work? Wake Community would love to know.
We would even settle for carpools or even a bus.

Mary Ann Baldwin (At-Large) also responded to Isley’s concerns and argued that going ahead with construction would help create jobs in Raleigh. The public safety center is expected to cost $226 million.

Raleigh Public Record

I think we've heard this before. Remember back in 1992 when they said the new convention center would create 1000 new jobs?
Ask Mary Ann Baldwin where the 1000 new jobs are that were created with the new convention center. I'm sure she would be happy to provide those figures. Surely if arts funding and building the new public safety center are going to create jobs, then the convention center must have created jobs as well.
How about this proposal Mary Ann?
Why don't you sponsor an amendment to this proposal to require that all arts spending be done with Raleigh artists and Raleigh vendors? Let's make sure the money stays local. That's what you want. Correct?
Let's not forget Mary Ann Baldwin's Piece de Resistance.
The Riverwalk.
Email Mary Ann Baldwin, ask her to produce the economic forecast for permanent job creation related to arts. She can be reached at mary-ann.baldwin@ci.raleigh.nc.us

MAYOR CHARLES "BENIGN NEGLECT" MEEKER FINALLY SPEAKS ON CRIME...
More police? More investment in community programs? Crackdown on gangs?
Faith based initiatives?
NOPE.
He blame shifted. It's not his fault he says.
From Sunday's News and Observer:
Meeker agrees that there are too many guns on Raleigh's streets, but he says state and federal laws bar the council from doing anything about it.
"We really don't have any authority there," he said. "We're left policing after terrible incidents have occurred."Meeker agrees that there are too many guns on Raleigh's streets, but he says state and federal laws bar the council from doing anything about it.
News and Observer, 2-15-09
That's it. That's literally all he had to say.
So Meeker takes the standard guns kill people excuse. This is the best he could do to explain crime and address solving the problem.
After an almost 50% increase in murders in Raleigh last year and this is the best answer he could muster.
Raleigh's well on its way to besting that number this year.
Don't blame me. It's Bev Perdue and Barack Obama's fault says Mayor "benign neglect" Meeker.
