NAACP Grassroots Leaders to Challenge Discriminatory Redistricting

DURHAM, NC - State NAACP leaders will join representatives from the 40 North Carolina counties under Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act for a press conference challenging the discriminatory redistricting maps passed by the NC General Assembly. The news conference will take place on Monday, August 15  at 10:00 AM at St. Paul's AME Church in Raleigh, NC .

Grassroots NAACP leadership will travel to Raleigh from the Section 5 counties because their communities are some of most vulnerable to the fundamental violations of national and state constitutions present in these maps. If implemented, these maps will serve to foster racial discrimination and inequality. The maps are designed to isolate, suppress and segregate the power and potential of the minority vote.
