A lot of movements start off small - with a mission and a group of passionate, committed people.

For 25 years, we've made it possible to fight for the lives of the unborn. Now we've expanded our focus to increase the impact.

We make it possible for people to make good choices about sex and life by providing a safe place where they can talk and get answers and support. A place where someone listens instead of judges.

We may not be able to change the laws about abortion. But we can change hearts and minds - one at a time. With your support we can make abortion unthinkable. How? Find out now.

Join us for this awareness and support event, featuring Dr. Alan Keyes - a prominent pro-life advocate, former UN Ambassador, Presidential and Senatorial candidate and radio/TV personality. Dr. Keyes will share how you can become part of the movement to overcome the barriers to change.

ATTEND - STOP FORCED ANNEXATION MEETING

StopNCAnnexation Update

The next meeting of the Joint Commission is this coming Thursday. The location is different from where the last three meetings were held.

Meeting details:
Day: ThursdayTime: 10:00 am - 12:00 noon
Date: January 22nd
Location: Room 1027 - Legislative Building
Address: 16 West Jones Street, Raleigh, 27601
Directions:
http://www.ncga.state.nc.us/help/directions.html

The final meeting is less than five days away. It is critical that the Joint Commission members hear from hundreds of people from across NC while they hammer out the details of the recommendations they plan to unveil on the 22nd.

I hope that you realize the impact that your input has had on the direction of the conversation in this Joint Commission.

When the Senate decided to get involved in studying the annexation issue, all the signs were there that some Senate members were more interested in taking control of the conversation than in allowing the citizens and the growing number of pro-reform legislators to continue to control it. It looked like some pro-city Senators were stepping in to rescue the cities from the outcry of the people. But that hasn't happened thanks to the strong committment by so many people to stick together and keep writing, calling and doing whatever it took to be at the commission meetings.

The comments coming back from the commission members to some of the calls and letters has been encouraging to say the least. It appears that the legislators are listening to the people and are recognizing that there are serious problems with how city initiated annexation has been used. And they seem to realize that the people of this State are not going to rest until the laws are made right with the American principle of protecting individual rights.

No matter how much the city lobbyists would like to transform this wonderful State into the "Soviet Socialist Republic of North Carolina", that is not what the people will accept and that is not the kind of place we want to live in.

Please take the time to remind the Commission members that 'we the people' want to see real meaningful changes made to the annexation laws_"no more tweaks". We want change that restores just rights and protections to the property owners.

1. Meaningful oversight of city initiated annexation
2. Meaningful services defined and required
3. A meaningful voice in the final decision to join a city or not

Here are the email contact addresses for the Commission Members for your convenience:

(Trudi Walend is no longer receiving email at the General Assembly)

I have also attached a text document that lists the home addresses and phone numbers of all the Legislators on the Commission. You can also find this information online @
ttp://www.stopncannexation.com/Joint_Committee.htm

A couple of other things that you could do, that would raise the public discussion of the issue and help keep the annexation issue in the media, would be to write letters to the editor and call into radio talk shows. These two actions can be done for the next few months and will help the progress of the issue through the 2009 Legislative Session.

One thing that is very clear from the statements from the Legislators and the reaction of the NCLM during this study of the annexation laws; we are all being heard and taken seriously. This is unprecedented in all the past studies.
Let's keep the pressure up and take this issue to a successful resolution this year.

You can find this information and more on the StopNCAnnexation website:

ATTEND THE SUPREME COURT HEARING FOR WAKECARES!

Dear Wake County Parents and Supporters of WakeCARES:

As you know, it's been a long battle for parents' rights regarding mandatory year round school and parental consent. In the recent round of reassignments, thousands more parents are effected in Wake County. The impact of this ruling will be felt state wide.

To review, our case was won in Superior Court, overturned in the NC Court of Appeals, and finally, a "stay" of the original order by Judge Manning, which required parental consent, was issued by the NC Supreme Court. As a result, Judge Manning's order stands, and as stated below, the Supreme Court will hear arguments next week!

We encourage all of those affected and interested to attend the hearing.

The Supreme Court of North Carolina has scheduled the oral arguments for the WakeCARES lawsuit for Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at 9:30 am.

The Supreme Court of North Carolina is located at: 2 East Morgan Street - Third Floor, Raleigh, NC.

Again, we appreciate your support, and would especially appreciate any donations that would help us cover our legal costs.

Thank you!

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM STAN NORWALK

Last week Stan Norwalk sent out an urgent message to Wake County taxpayers urging their attendance at his swearing-in and the Wake County Commissioners meeting to follow. He also wants you to speak out.

We’re happy to help out Stan.

And we will be there to lend our support to Commissioners Bryan, Coble and Gurley.

However we’ll be bringing our own message, not the regurgitated one you and Wake School bureaucrats have peddled for so long.

This is only the opening salvo by Stan and his group of Wake School System bureaucrats to push for an
interlocal agreement that would raise property taxes by 67%. Those aren’t our words but those of Wake County Manager David Cooke.

Wear RED

What: Wake County Board of Commissioners meeting
When: Monday, December 1st - 2:00 pm (Citizens may speak at 3:00 pm but you will need to sign up)
Where: Wake County Courthouse, 7th Floor, Room 700 – 316 Fayetteville Street, Raleigh

Some short facts:

Wake County Manager David Cooke has asked that each department return funds to Wake County to accommodate revenue shortfalls. Wake County has asked the Wake County School System to return $5.7 million. Wake County has not singled out our schools. These are across the board cuts.

Once again our Wake School System leaders have resorted
to using our children as pawns in their political game – not unlike when they threatened to take away dental insurance earlier this year.

Del “chicken little” Buns has indicated he will attend and tell Wake Commissioners how he intends to use our children as political pawns to wrestle more money away from Wake taxpayers. I can only guess how Del will threaten the educational future of Wake County students to scare Wake County families.

Honestly Del, it is getting old and unbecoming of a serious debate concerning millions of dollars.

Beverly Clark has also suggested that the school system simply return $2.8 million in funds for student enrollment projections that never occurred – money the school system should not have in the first place! That’s not a cut.

Some points to consider:

Wake County School System bureaucrats have once again angered families with a bloated reassignment process to achieve diversity goals.

It is irresponsible to ask other county departments and county employees to suffer further cuts beyond those requested by Manager Cooke due to the poor planning and poor financial stewardship of the Wake County Public School System. Should law enforcement, parks or emergency management suffer?

It takes leadership Stan to say who will suffer since you want absolutely no cuts in the Wake County School System budget. You are no longer a political hack on the sidelines.

Our Wake County School System has ongoing problems with poor financial mismanagement.

SCHOOL SYSTEM RECEIVES $6.4 MILLION FOR FAULTY ENROLLMENT PROJECTIONS

$1.4 MILLION JUST THIS WEEK IN ADDITIONAL COSTS FOR A WAKE SCHOOL

Over $600,000 lost by the Wake School System in sales-tax exemptions

DEL BURNS SALARY DOESN'T SUFFER

$8.9 MILLION ALONE FOR LAND FOR A NEW HIGH SCHOOL

WAKE COMMISSIONERS STAND UP AGAINST $400,00 IN WAKE SCHOOLS WASTE

FLAWED DATA FOR WAKE SCHOOLS FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH

Please take time to attend this important meeting. This will be the opening salvo in what will be an ongoing battle for responsible financial stewardship of Wake County tax dollars.

If you can come please let us know by contacting us at

Thanks.
